After New York City’s budget crisis 43 years ago, United Activities Unlimited (UAU) rose from the ashes after the former Board of Education was forced to close its after school recreation programs. UAU currently operates about 30 public schools on Staten Island. Serving young people is the goal for UAU and they continue to make it grow. Studies have shown that these programs have been helping students succeed and have a greater chance of graduating from high school. These programs are keeping activity flowing for these children and helping them retain information.
